Second Annual Birdathon Challenges Conservancy’s Team to Surpass Last Year’s Goal
This spring, while attending a series of zoom conferences put on by Gathering Waters, Chippewa County Land Conservancy board members were not surprised to hear that acreage preserved by land trusts has a positive impact on our Wisconsin birds. We also learned that many of us have a strong emotional connection to birds and have bird stories to share! Birds bring brilliant color, diversity, and joy to our everyday lives and deserve to be protected. The connection between land trusts and the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, especially the Bird Conservation Fund, is evident. The Great Wisconsin Birdathon is a wonderful way to support all three.
To raise support and awareness for Wisconsin’s birds, we’ve joined this walkathon-style fundraiser again this year and will try to find as many bird species as possible on a single day. On May 12th, teams from the mighty “Chirp Chasers” will set out to achieve more greatness! This year’s goal is $1500 in pledges (we did $1000 last year), and our targeted number of bird species is 115 (we did 101 last year). Although 14 additional species don’t sound like many, it certainly can be. So much depends on weather conditions for the timing of migration, and this winter has been exceptionally mild. Whatever the outcome, we are super excited to get birding.
We would love it if you would consider donating to our cause. Here is the link to our fundraising webpage: https://go.dojiggy.io/wibirdathon/chirp-chasers.
