Learn About Bees At Our Annual Meeting

Bees provide essential functions, pollinating food and other plants

Bees and other pollinators are critical to a healthy functioning ecosystem. Many food crops depend on the honeybee for pollination. Bees also pollinate many of the flowering plants we enjoy in the forest or fields.

We’ll learn about beekeeping and the role of pollinators at the Chippewa County Land Conservancy’s Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 31, at 6:30 p.m. The program will be in the new Chippewa Area History Center, 12 Bridgewater Ave, Chippewa Falls.

JoAnn Parks, who lives near Cadott, picked up her father’s bug for raising bees about ten years ago and has been at it ever since. In addition to adding to the army of pollinators doing that important job, she’s been studying beekeeping culture and has even traveled to Cuba to learn the techniques employed there. And yes, her bees provide honey, a sweet byproduct, indeed.

JoAnn is an active member of the Chippewa Valley Beekeepers Association, the ZCBJ Bohemian Hall, and the Ice Age Trail Alliance. She is retired from the GIS-mapping world.

Refreshments and a short business meeting will follow the program.
